Note to all Dancers/Guests of the Hotel
Having recently stayed at the Hotel it seems necessary to clarify a mis-understanding, or two, with regard to the use of the ballroom at the Hotel Piccadilly. It is hoped that the following paragraphs will give a full explanation.
In previous years guests could use the facilities of the ballroom at any time, unsupervised and free of charge.
Unfortunately, Health and Safety legislation now places responsibility on EVERYONE, whether in connection with a job, or dealing with life's everyday trials and tribulations! The onus is, in particular, heavily placed on businesses and is both stringent and costly. H&S have the ability to close down, immediately, any business if their strict rules are breached.
Of top priority to Terri, the Owner (and dance teacher of vast experience), is the safety of her guests whilst at the same time giving excellent value for money. Those of you who have stayed at the Hotel will know the accommodation, food and ballroom floor is of top quality/condition and cannot be faulted.
Nevertheless, rules are rules and a workable plan for safe use of the ballroom is now in place.
Terri has arranged that someone, often herself, or fellow host will:
- open the ballroom for dancers to practice ½ hour before tuition and ½ hour after tuition;
- during the afternoon there will generally (*see note below) be further dance time available via a practice session; and
- prior to the commencement of the evening entertainment there is a further ½ hour practice.
This means every dancer could, if they have the energy, dance up to:
7 hours!!!!! a day – free of charge (* Depending on the dance event being run this may be altered by the Hotel or by the Guest Host)
Another mis-understanding is that the Hotel are asking for £10 per hour from any dancer if they wish to use the floor.
The £10 fee is only applied to professional teachers using the floor for private lesson purposes or couples wanting to use the floor for their sole use.
If you have ever hired a hall for your own private function you will know the £10 per hour fee is extremely reasonable bearing in mind the superb facility.
It's worth noting that the £10 per hour will only make a minimum dent in the cost of the lighting the ballroom (some 200+ light bulbs), air condition/heating and maintenance of the floor, so lets be fair, it really is very reasonable but only applicable to professional teachers.
Please remember it is Health and Safety that are imposing these rules, not Terri, she just wants everyone to be happy and enjoy their stay at the Hotel Piccadilly.
